The tourism potential of the Synagogue got a shot in the arm when the Muziris Heritage Project announced their intention to include Mala and its Jewish Monuments in the second phase of their expansion. |
 |
Though the Synagogue is mostly bare inside, the building has not lost its majestic bearing even after a few decades of oblivion. |
Decades of oblivion with hardly any visitors both national and international have pushed this once majestic Synagogue of Mala into big trouble. Encroachment and disrepair have taken the toll on the once a splendid Synagogue, the pride of Mala.
Still, true to the good heart of the community which worshipped there and its friendly neighbours, the monument has survived time and weather.
May God bless the memories of our Jews who lived here with us.
Once the tourism potential of Mala and its Jewish heritage is realized, we are sure, the neighbourhood which consists of Hindus, Muslims and Christians who have lived together harmoniously from the time immemorial will take into their own hands the protection and the maintenance of the monument and its cemetery.
Our efforts are now to bring tourists to Mala, hopefully the MHP decision will be implemented soon.
